Ready, Set, Go! caters for children starting school the following year. It is designed to introduce early Literacy and Numeracy skills, as well as providing fine motor and social skills using a variety of open ended activities through art, movement, music and technology.

The objective is for your child to be immersed in skills in preparation for the classroom. This program will assist them in feeling ready and confident for “Big School”.

Early Literacy skills will be developed through immersing children in quality literature where rich language structures assist with vocabulary development and oral language expansion. Children will be introduced to letter names and sounds and shown how these sounds can be put together to make simple words. They will be introduced to simple sight words and shown how to construct simple sentences. Most importantly, they will be developing a love of reading and sharing books leading to greater comprehension and oral language skills.
The Early Numeracy skills include the introduction of mathematical language such as language of position (under, over, beside), language of time (before, after), how to recognise and write numbers to 20, simple shapes, colours and patterns.

The activities are designed to be open ended and therefore catering for children at different ‘readiness’ levels. Most importantly, the activities are particularly intended to incorporate social skills such as sharing ideas, working with peers, initiating conversations and playing simple games.

The activities will incorporate the development of fine motor skills where your child will be shown the appropriate pencil grip and letter formations and ultimately increasing the strength in their fingers.

These weekly sessions will immerse your child in incidental teachings that are necessary for “Big School”. These include asking for help, helping others, packing up, putting their hand up when wanting to speak and listening to and following instructions.
